We're unsure as to how long these gems have been available in Australia, but my god, it has been worth the wait. IKEA now offers a vegan alternative to their iconic meatballs - Veggie Balls (also known as ALLEMANSRÄTTEN... but let's stick to 'veggie balls' for now).
IKEA claims they 'wanted it to show that this is vegetables only, so [they] used large and clearly visible chunks,' and they were definitely right about that. The ingredients in these veggie balls are super clean, super tasty and do not contain any palm oil! Win, win and win.
Our verdict
Taste: 4/5
These veggie balls a packed full of flavour, but do lack a bit of salt, however, they are typically served with lingonberry jam or your preferred sauce/condiment (we like serving them with our vegan ricotta or coconut tzatziki).
Texture: 4/5
You may find the veggie balls are slightly mushy, but there is bo doubt they are incredibly moist (unlike other veggie balls we've tried), and have actual chunks of veggies inside.
Overall, we give these a solid 4/5. So the next time you're walking the dreamy showrooms of IKEA, stop over at the restaurant or market to pick up some of these scrumptious veggie balls.
